Alice Springs’ Olive Pink Botanic Garden has recently opened a new walk, the Senna Walk.
This scenic trail invites visitors to immerse themselves in the vibrant flora and fauna of Central Australia, with a particular focus on the diverse species of Senna, a resilient native plant known for its stunning yellow blooms.
The walk offers a peaceful journey through the Garden, with interpretive signs highlighting the cultural and ecological significance of the Senna species.
Garden Curator, Samantha Hussey, on the new addition, notes, “The Senna Walk deepens visitors’ understanding of local biodiversity while offering a unique experience in the heart of Alice Springs.”
“Interestingly the Senna species, was previously known as Cassia. The genus Cassia was split, with Australian species like Cassia artemisioides now classified as Senna artemisioides. So this walk also emphasizes the garden’s commitment to highlighting native flora and the evolving understanding of plant taxonomy.”
Visitors are encouraged to explore the Garden’s rich history, established in 1956 by anthropologist and artist Olive Pink, and connect with the natural beauty of Central Australia.
