Olive Pink Opera, 7 – 8 October 2022

The Olive Pink Opera is a heritage opera about the life and work of Olive Muriel Pink (1886-1975), a woman ahead of her time.

Olive Pink was an artist, early native plant gardener, anthropologist, and an outspoken activist for the rights of Aboriginal people. The Olive Pink Opera, composed by Professor Emerita Anne Boyd AM, was the signature event of the renowned Desert Song Festival held from 7 – 8 October 2022. The libretto, created by the composer, is based on local stories by both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. The Opera was performed in the Olive Pink Botanic Garden, which Olive Pink founded.

The performances were sold out and a huge success with standing ovations on both nights.
