AT: Olive Pink Botanic Garden.
Four Central Australian artists have embarked on a project called Unfinished Lines. It is a multidisciplinary, collaborative project that seeks to represent the many facets of the Alice Springs community, culminating in a photographic exhibition that features handmade silk and cotton garments 3-dimensional art and book endorsing the wondrous lives of twelve local elders cast within the stunning landscapes of Central Australia.
Each of the twelve aesthetic photographs in the book will feature an elder wearing a headdress and body adornment constructed from natural materials such as paperbark, spinifex and ochre taken from the landscape in which they are sited. Pertinent slices of their life stories, artworks and `pearls of wisdom’ will accompany each image.
These images are to be digitally printed onto natural fabrics, silk & cotton, and transformed into garments which reflect the landscape from which they were taken. The exhibition will encourage the viewer to move away from the fashion industries obsession with thinness and youth associating these images with garments that can be proudly worn by all ages and shapes.
Inspired by Eyes as Big as Plates created by Finnish photographer Riitta Ikonen and Norwegian photographer Karoline Hjorth, the projects aim is to demonstrate the beauty and wisdom encapsulated in the process of ageing, and the continuing living journey for all seniors.
