The Olive Pink Opera Project Alchera- Jugulba’

Anne Boyd AM is Professor Emerita, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the University of Sydney. She has had a long and distinguished career as a classical music and opera composer including writing and producing an opera on Daisy Bates. Anne has a long-standing interest in Aboriginal culture and Central Australia. Below is her conception of the opera she is writing on Olive Pink:

I am currently involved in an amazingly exciting opera project, the second in my Australian heritage series focussed around heroic Australian women and their contact with Aboriginal people, planned for the Alice Springs in 2020. The central character is the legendary Olive Pink and we are planning to stage the performance in the now flourishing Botanical Garden founded by her some 60 years ago.  The underlying theme of the work is to explore some of the positive aspects of cultural contact in the spirit of genuine reconciliation.
